A terrified motorist has captured the moment a man armed with a machete allegedly attempted to carjack their vehicle.

The incident was filmed at Deception Bay in Queensland on Monday and shows a man brandishing a large machete approach a car as it was stopped in traffic.

The man grins at the camera and repeatedly taps the car’s window as he demands for the driver to let him in.

After a few unsuccessful attempts to unlock the car the man then walks down the street through more traffic with the large knife still in his hand.

Queensland Police confirmed they arrested a 21-year-old man in relation to the incident.

He has since been charged with threatening violence and unlawful entry of a motor vehicles and obstructing police.

TikTok user Ash_Massacre later revealed she filmed the terrifying moment while she was stuck in traffic with her husband.

“My husband and I were just driving and we had stopped at the lights and basically I could see some dude walking through it and I was like ‘what’s he doing’, and my husband was like ‘oh he’s walking around with a machete’,” she said.

“It was absolutely terrifying, I didn’t know what to do, I was stuck in shock.”

She said she didn’t expect the man to approach the vehicle and that he was eerily polite throughout the alleged attempted carjacking.

“He tapped on the window with his machete and said please let me in, very polite,” she said.

“I was stunned, I didn’t know what to do and just yelled for us to drive but we couldn’t go anywhere.”

The man is set to appear in court in December.
